Curriculum for Excellence

Abernethy has been educating children through means of outdoor activities since 1971.  In over 40 years, thousands of young people have benefitted from the high quality staff and an exceptional level of programme provision that Abernethy has become renowned for.

Schools work is a major part of what we do to achieve our charitable objectives and we are pleased to be able to offer a wide range of programme options as well as the John Muir Award, JASS Award, DofE residential and expeditions and our own in-house Leadership through Adventure Award.

Learning outdoors and a residential experience with Abernethy will offer many many opportunities to deliver the outcomes of the Curriculum for Excellence including:

  • Developing confidence by being away from home and by trying new experiences
  • Teamworking and reviewing skills
  • Engaging and developing relationships with peers and with the staff
  • A great sense of adventure
  • An fresh insight into moral and religious education (Abernethy is a Christian organisation)

If you would like a copy of our curriculum document which lists all of the experiences and outcomes, tying into the Curriculum for Excellence, as well as how a visit to Abernethy can help your pupils become successful learners, responsible citizens, confident individuals and effective contributors please e-mail, stating which centre you are interested in.

If you are a school based in England, we also have a copy of the curriculum document which ties in with the National Curriculum, please e-mail for a copy.
