Frequently asked questions

Here are some of our most frequently asked questions, if your question is not answered here then get in touch and we will be pleased to help.  

What happens if my child is ill before their visit to Abernethy?

Abernethy Adventure Centres take all reasonable steps to prevent the spread of illness and disease. However, from time to time illnesses do spread due to shared facilities and communal living spaces. Therefore guests who have displayed symptoms of a potentially contagious disease (such as diarrhea and vomiting) less than 48 hours before arrival must not come to the Centre. Although unfortunate, this is for the health protection of all of our guests and staff. Please ensure you have adequate travel insurance to cover you in this eventuality as normal cancellation charges will apply.  LEARN MORE

Do we need to bring bedding?

No, duvets, pillows and bed linen are provided but you do need to bring your own towels.  If you forget anything then ask at reception and you will probably be able to borrow items for the duration of your stay.

Can we choose our own activity programme?

Yes, just speak to the Centre of your choice and a programme will be devised for you.  Alternatively let us suggest a programme that would best suit your groups ability and ages. LEARN MORE

What will the food be like?

All of our meals are freshly home cooked on the premises.  Your full board package will include breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper for the duration of your stay.  If you have any allergies in your group then please let us know in advance and we will do our best to cater for them. LEARN MORE

Will there be wi-fi access?

Yes each Centre has access to a wireless internet connection but please be aware that, due to the nature of the buildings and local area, reception may be restricted to certain areas and the speed of the broadband may not be as fast as you are used to.

Is there mobile phone reception?

Generally outside, yes.  However, inside the houses reception will be limited.  Each Centre does also have a pay phone for guest use.

Is the Centre locked at night?

Arrangements differ at the Centres but either the sleeping accommodation is locked or the main outside doors are locked.  A duty manager can be contacted by phone in the event of an emergency during the night.

Are all your Instructors qualified?

All of our In structors are qualified in the activities that they lead.  All activities have been risk assessed and have strict operating procedures.  We are licenced and approved by the Adventure Activities Licencing Authority and work with them to ensure maximum safety in our activity programmes. What about minibus safety?

Our minibuses are well maintained by qualified staff.  All minibuses are fitted with seat belts and carry first aid kits and fire extinguishers.  All drivers are qualified for the vehicle they are driving.  

Abernethy is a Christian run organisation - what does that mean?

Abernethy was set up to provide people of all ages with the opportunity to experience the beauty and challenge of the outdoors within a healthy Christian environment.   Each member of staff is a Christian - we hope that our beliefs will be reflected in the way that you and your group are cared for during your stay. The "Explore" session each evening explores the relevance of the Christian faith today and is presented in a fun, informal way. LEARN MORE
