This is a sensitively led retreat for people who have experienced a loss. Change, loss and grief are a normal and valuable part of life, but the losses associated with bereavement can be difficult, with many different emotions experienced.
The retreat will be led by Rev Andrea Fraser, a Parish Minister in Fife and an experienced ‘Companion’ with ‘Seasons for Growth’. Seasons for Growth is an evidence-based, educational programme that uses a range of tools and resources to allow us to understand and to normalise feelings and emotions after a loss. Andrea (assisted by Dr Steve Aisthorpe, Centre Director at Kilmalieu) will use a range of approaches to explore how to live with a loss and wonder what the future might hold. Together we will explore approaches to dealing with grief and developing decision-making and problem-solving skills, as well as develop an online peer group.
Each morning and evening there will be interactive sessions to help you develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to understand and respond well to experiences of change, loss and grief. Each afternoon you will be offered options for exploring nature, engaging in a creative activity, playing games or just relaxing. After the retreat you will be invited to join an online peer support group facilitated by Andrea.
You will be welcome to join in the rhythm of morning and evening prayers in the Christian tradition with the Kilmalieu team, but this is optional, and this is a retreat that is suitable for people of any faith or none.
Accommodation is in the renovated eighteenth-century hunting lodge, with a mixture of comfortable single, twin and family bedrooms. Some rooms have en-suite facilities, while others have shared toilet and shower facilities available.
The retreat is fully catered, starting with dinner after arrival on Monday and ending with breakfast on Friday. Food is home-made and consistently praised for its quality. Guests have access to a small library, art room, lounge, chapel, gym and games room – and are free to explore the 3000 acre estate, with its beautiful hills, coastline and woodland.
