‘Jesus would often slip away to the wilderness and pray’ (Luke 5:16). This is an opportunity to do just that. This retreat is a chance to refresh your spiritual life, as you explore different ways to pray, reflect on scripture and encounter God in and through nature. It will be ideal for those who have no previous experience of Christian retreat, but those with more experience will also find plenty to inspire and encourage them to go deeper.
There will be lots of time and space to enjoy the rugged beauty of the mountains, woodland and coastline that characterise the Kilmalieu estate.
You will be invited to join in the daily rhythms of prayer with the team at Kilmalieu and you will be offered various options for investigating and practising different forms of prayer, reflection, engaging with scripture and nature. There will be opportunities to engage with God in the great outdoors, through creative activities, alone and with others. All options are … well, optional! Likewise, there will be possibilities for sharing experiences and insights with others, but there is certainly no expectation or pressure to do so.
The retreat is fully catered, starting with dinner after arrival on Tuesday and ending with breakfast before you leave on Friday. Food is home-made and consistently praised for its quality. Guests have access to a small library, art room, lounge, chapel, gym and games room – and are free to explore the 3000 acre estate, where otters, seals, lichens, ferns, incredible bird life and many other aspects of nature can be enjoyed.
Accommodation is in the renovated eighteenth-century hunting lodge with a mixture of comfortable single, twin and family bedrooms. Some rooms have en-suite facilities, while others have shared toilet and shower facilities available. Maximum number on this retreat is 14.
