We are delighted to welcome writer, musician and Chair of the Association of Christian Writers, Jane Walters, to Kilmalieu – to lead what promises to be an inspiring retreat. Jane is a published author (Too Soon: A Mother’s Journey Through Miscarriage, SPCK, 2018), a writer for radio and creator of devotional material for Bible Reading Fellowship (BRF). However, her great passion is in enabling others to explore writing, by facilitating writing groups and running writing retreats.
If you are a complete beginner, interested to commit some first tentative words to a page, this retreat is for you. If you are a seasoned writer who is looking to hone your skills and have space for your own writing, this is for you!
Within the context of a rhythm of morning and evening devotions … and in a supportive and encouraging environment … each morning Jane will lead a series of informal, interactive and fun sessions. During the afternoon you will be encouraged to either explore the wonders of nature in the hills, woodland and coastline of Kilmalieu – or write.
All sessions are optional, so if you are just looking for a peaceful space to write, that’s fine. There will be opportunities for sharing experiences and insights with others, but there is no expectation or pressure to do so. You will also be offered a one-to-one time with Jane.
Accommodation is in the renovated eighteenth-century hunting lodge, with a mixture of comfortable single, twin and family bedrooms. Some rooms have en-suite facilities, while others have shared toilet and shower facilities available.
The retreat is fully catered, starting with dinner after arrival on Monday and ending with breakfast on Friday. Food is home-made and consistently praised for its quality. Guests have access to a small library, art room, lounge, chapel, gym and games room – and are free to explore the 3000-acre estate, where otters, seals, butterflies, lichens, ferns, incredible bird life and many other aspects of nature can be enjoyed.
